Built to solve a common problem

Most people who try to lose weight, build muscle or simply eat better start the same way: with a calorie number from a calculator they never hear from again.

Calorie Target Lab was created to solve a specific, common problem. People receive calorie calculations with little explanation of where the number came from — and no mechanism for finding out whether that number actually works for them.

A calorie target based on a formula is a starting estimate, not a guarantee. Two people with identical stats on paper can have genuinely different energy requirements. The only reliable way to know how close an estimate is for a specific person is to test it against what happens when they actually follow it.

That's the idea behind Calorie Target Lab: give people a properly-calculated starting target, built from more than one input, and then build in a structured way to check whether it's working — and refine it if it isn't.

So Calorie Target Lab lets you calculate a target, follow it, check in every two weeks, and refine your number using your own results over a 90-day programme. Read how the numbers work on the methodology page.

Calorie Target Lab was built out of that day-to-day coaching experience — specifically, how often a client's starting number needed to be refined once real results came in.

Dan also runs Forever Strong Coaching, which offers online coaching and a high-protein meals and planner system. Those are his own services and the calculator is free to use without them.
